A Hopeful Vistior

Towards the end of March I was over at Lowes and they had hanging baskets of pansies.  It was way early, but I couldn't resist, so I bought two of them and brought them home and hung them up.  Pansies are a sturdy lot.  They got snowed on about five times and had some really cold nights to deal with.  However, now that the weather has improved a little and the days are a little longer my hanging baskets of pansies have found another use.  We noticed a pair of robins building their nest right in the middle of one of them that hangs just outside our front door.  We think it is really cool.  I hope it speaks of the peace and serenity that surrounds our home.

A Very Happy Birthday

The day began at 8:30 AM at Ryan's house. We were going fishing together, Ryan, Justin and I, for the first time in quite a while. We drove for about sixty miles to the our designated fishing spot through wind and hail and snow. When we arrived it was cold and windy and to top it off the water in the lake was very murky. Not to be deterred, we all had a line in the water is short order and the fishing began. Well, at least we were getting our flies into the water against the wind. All of the fish in the lake must have been confused and thought it was Fast Sunday, at least none were taking what we had to offer. We tried for a while and finally Ryan said: "The fishing is over. From here on it's just a trip to the mountains." We always enjoy being in the mountains regardless of the weather and as far as the fish are concerned, it's mostly just an excuse to get outside and be together among God's beautiful creations. No fish, No tears shed, Happy faces.

After arriving home and cleaning up some, it was off to Alison and Ammon's house for a family get-together and lots of fun and food. It was great getting to see you all and enjoy the delicious meal that had been prepared. Even more special was to see my grandkids enjoying one another and playing so well together. These kids are very special and important to us and each one shows their love for us in their own way, which brings joy to our hearts and souls.

All of our children, not very much children anymore, were there except for Stephen. He lives far away in Colorado and we missed him and his family immensely. Only their presence could have made the day more perfect, but we knew, they were with us in spirit and that means a great deal to us too.

And of course the setting was perfect. Alison and Ammon have a beautiful large home, big enough to accomadate the entire clan, and a beautiful yard in which the kids had a great time playing together after the weather cleared a little bit. In short, it was an almost perfect day. One for which I will ever be greatful. Thanks to all of you for your love and for the way you live your lives. May the Lord's greatest blessings continue to be yours/ours. I love you all very much.

Alyssa's Wedding

Yesterday, May 21, 2020 was our niece, Alyssa's, wedding day.  She was married in the Logan Temple to Ben Owen of Weston, Idaho.  They had met at Utah State where they are both students.  I must say they are a good looking and happy couple.  It was good to see all of Mark and Gail's family.  All of their children were in the Temple with Alyssa except for Dillon who has not yet recieved his endowment, but he was busy taking care of all of his nieces and nephews while they were in the Temple.  He, no doubt, had his hands full.
It was a beautiful ceremony and was performed by Jerry Nelson, a relative.  He is Grandpa Darrell's first cousin. We see them often in the Temple as they are temple workers.  He was the Stake President in the Paris Idaho Stake and also served as a mission president in Nigeria. It was his very first live sealing, but he did a wonderful job.  I couldn't help thinking what a great thing it was that all of Mark nd Gail's children could be there at the Temple with Alyssa on this special day.
It was also an opportunity for me and my siblings to get together as well.  We were all there except for Ellis, who is recovering from a stay in the hospital and some radiation treatments.  I love my family and I'm sure Dad and Mom were happily looking down on us. it was good to be together in the Temple of the Lord.

Deciscions, Decsions!!

It's that time of year.  It's been almost two months since I brought those first two hanging baskets of pansies from Lowe's home.  I had vsions of early botanical beauty, but suffered from no grand elusions about how well they would do that early in the year.  I hung them up in front of our house and the neighbors thought I was nuts.  Maybe I was.  They got snowed on a few times and were subjected to many nights of below freezing weather.  Panisies are a hardy lot and I enjoyed them regardless of what the neighbors thought.  Siince then the days have grown longer and the sun has a little more power and so I ventured out to Fonnesbek's greenhouse in Mendon today to see what I might find to make our little cottage and yard look pretty for the summer.  They have so many beautiful and thrifty plants it is hard to decide which ones will be best.  How will they look right away?  How will they withstand additional frosty nights:?  What colors should I get?  How many of each color?  What varieties will be best for our soil conditions?  How will they look in hanging baskets?  How much care are they going to require? How will Iris like them? What kind of plants grow and bloom best in the shade?  What kind of plants do best in full sun?  How much sun and shade areas do I have?  What is the weather going to be like when I transplant them and right after?  How much are they going to cost?  Are they worth it? etc. etc.

Anyway I was able to make some choices and came home for a day of beautifying the earth, at least our little bit of it.  I enjoyed my work and am pleased with the results, though I'm sure they will be much better in a few weeks.  I hope you all can come and see our little corner of the world this summer.

Just a small beginning to our little spring  time beautification project.  I guess I really am a flower child.

The Mother of My Magnificent Seven

We celebrate Mother's Day, but we can never do justice to it in a single day of celebration any more than our mothers do justice to us by a single day of service.  For mothers it is a lifelong commitment to sharing, teaching and serving.  For the rest of us it should be a lifelong commitment to honoring and respecting our mothers.  I am so greatful that Iris consented to be my wife and the mother of my children.  My life would not have been nearly as good without her, and the world would not be nearly as good without the seven wonderful children she brought into the world.  My greatest wish is that she will be happy and that we can be together forever.  Love you Iris.  Happy Mother's Day!!!!!!!

The Russians Are Coming

Below you will find that the Eborn family has been invaded by the Babushkas, well maybe not just yet, Megan and Maddie.  They are dressed in a couple of the warm Russian fur hats that Elder Lambson, JT's first companion, brought to Jason and Rene's home tonight.  Elder Lambson got home from his mission in the Russia Novosibirsk Mission about a week ago and Jason and Rene invited him over to get acquaited and to give an up to date report about JT/Elder Eborn in Siberia.  He told us all about his mission and showed us some great pictures of Russia and, of course, his last missionary companion in Tomsk, Russia.  It was so good to meet him and his brother.  They are from Sandy and Elder Lambson's brother has recently been called to the Sierra Leone Freetown Mission. So their family is having a variety of experiences ranging from frigid Siberia to steamy Africa as they share the gospel of Jesus Christ with others.  How wonderful!!
The pictures of JT looked great.  He looks healthy and happy.  That winning smile has never left him and will take him far, literally and figuratively.
I think Mama Rene is breathing just a little easier now.  Thanks, Jason and Rene inviting us to share the e
evening and thanks to Elder Lambson also.
