Monday in Montpelier

We spent Monday in Montpelier, or at least a part of the day.  We still go over there to Dr. Hammond, our dentist, as we haven't found anyone over here in Logan that we like as much.  Of course, we haven't really tried either.  Dr. Hammond has been very good to us and is such a good dentist and a great man as well.  I can honestly say we look forward to going to the dentist.  That is not something that is common.  While I was in the chair one of my old students came in for a minute and I asked her to take a picture of Dr. Hammond working on my teeth.

I am so greatful for teeth.  Who knows how much longer I'll have them all.  I'm getting a little "long in the tooth" as the saying goes.

Of course a visit to Montpelier wouldn't be complete without Iris and  Bonnie getting together.  They have been like sisters for many years.  We took her out to lunch at the Ranchhand.

While we were out at the Ranchhand I took a picture of a picture of Montpelier Washington Street from 1957.  Maybe the Happy Days of the 1950's really were a sort of Golden Age.  Things have changed, some for the better and some for the worse.  I suppose that's pretty much the way it is most everywhere.  You gotta love all those old jet fighter plane inspired car models of the 1950s.

Vacationing in Swizterland????Or???????

Iris and I decided to take a little mini-vacation, just for a couple of days.  We arrived at our destination in Midway, Utah and thought we had landed in the Swiss Alps.  Everything there has a Swiss theme and even though it was not the ideal time of the year, it was beautiful.  We had a wonderful condo that could have accomodated a few more bodies, but unfortunately, this was the time we could get at such a short notice and we have nor regrets.  When we woke up on Tuesday morning everything was covered with heavy snow and it was still snowing.  It was beautiful, but it was rather warm and it soon melted off. We did take a little side trip over to Park City and Deer Valley where it was still snowing.  What do you expect when you go to a ski resort?  We looked around the quaint old town of Park City with all of it's brightly colored old miner's homes and art galleries etc.  then  later found a nice place to eat and then drove back to the condo in Midway.  It was a nice day.  We didn't do too much except just look around and relax, but it was good to be together, as it always is.  Below are a few of the pictures we took.

This is our condo on Tuesday morning about ten o'clock.  The snow had already mostly melted away.  The picture would have been prettier about two hours earlier, but I did't feel like going outside in my undies to take it.

Here is Iris at Deer Valley Ski Resort.  It's still winter just a few miles away.  You could, however, tell that spring is on its way.  Most of the ski bunnies must have taken to the golf course or the pools elsewhere.  It was rather quiet.  Just the way I like it.

Iris and the famed skier, Stein Eriksen, at Deer Valley.

Houses like this reminded me of the time I spent in Germany and Switerland many years ago.  They are very typical of Switzerland and southern Germany in the area of the Alps.  The homes often have these paintings on them and also proverbs or sayings all written in the old German script.  It was a fun time and we wouldn't mind going back again, maybe at a different time of year.  Maybe the Swiss Days celebration in September.

Temple Devotional

We had a wonderful opportunity today.  We just came from a special devotional held for the workers of the Logan Temple.  The Logan Tabernacle was filled and it was a great experience to sit literally at the feet of an Apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ and be instructed.  Elder Jeffery R. Holland took time out of his very busy schedule to come and share his testimony with us and teach us the things of the Kingdom.  One of his primary themes was the "Why" of the Savior's mission and also why we do some of the things we do as members of the Church.  He taught us of the Savior's perfect example and stressed the importance of forgiving any and all who may have tresspassed against us or despitefully used us.  Some things are relatively easy to forgive, but others are for many of us very difficult.  He stressed the importance of forgiving all and reminded us that we too need that forgiveness.  He cautioned us  about seeking what we think is justice and rather admonished us to seek the Lord's tender mercy.  This was no ordinary experience for us and the Spirit there was powerful and strong.  I love the gospel plan and love the opportunity to help bring people on both sides of the veil  the blessings of the gospel into their lives.

The Logan Temple

The Temple is very near to us, in more ways than one, and we get to see it and experience it in many ways.  This is one of my favorite photographs of the Logan Temple and always reminds me of the special days we have all had there and the covenants we have made.  They promise us joy in the greatest possible way, together with our families.

By the way,  thanks to all of you who have been working on the cards you were given at Christmas.  We thank you and those in the Spirit World thank you even more.  Please do not neglect this important assignment if you haven't got around to working on it yet.  I just sent thirty cards with Jared for Kinsey to do the baptisms and confirmations.  Thanks Kinsey.  You are an awesome girl.  In fact we think you are all awesome, everyone in the entire family.

Happy Birthday, Jared!!!!!

                                                                Happy Birthday, Jared !!!!!

Probably our greatest April Fools Day surprise was that day, 41 years ago when Jared joined our family.
We were living in Twin Falls, Idaho then in a small apartment complex.  Our next door neighbors, the Davis's, were our good friends.  I remember after Jared was born in the middle of the night and I finally came home from the hospital, I was so happy about Jared's birth I just couldn't resist ringing their doorbell and proclaiming the good news.  I couldn't wait until sunnrise to  tell  them that we had a new son. They were happy for us and didn't mind the early awakening.  It has been good news for us ever since and we are happy about the course of Jared's life and his wonderful wife and family.  Jared, you have made a major contribution to our life and the world you touch each day. We hope you have a very Happy Birthday and many, many more to come.

What does it have to teach me?  What can I learn from it?
